What’s the best value for money Homeopathy software?

It depends whether you want a “quick fix” or whether you’re looking for a long term solution.

Quick fix

• Choose a rental program
• You can use the basic functions and content
• You can choose to stop renting, and paying, whenever you like.
• Of course, if you compare what you’ll pay over e.g. 10 years VS buying, then buying a lifetime license will usually be the most cost-effective option - especially if your local dealer offers student discounts for one-off payments.

Long term

• Buying and owning your program with a lifetime license is normally the best choice when you consider long term value for money.

Online Vs Offline

There are some programs that only run online, some only offline, some do both. Choosing the right thing is affected by how you work:

Online program is good if:

• You’re always online
• You have a very fast and stable internet connection wherever you work
• You don’t have extra charges for internet data use
• You like working from multiple devices all the time
• You don’t mind the possibility of work disruptions in case of internet failure.

Offline only program is good if:

• You don’t need to connect to different devices all the time (e.g. office + home, unless you have multiple licenses)

Best online and offline choice

This really depends on what you need.

• If you’re interested in a lot of content, then RadarOpus, Synergy, Vision and Hompath are all valid choices (thousands of documents).
• If you’re looking for simplicity but not too much content then Complete Dynamics is a very valid choice (especially the 10 year license which is better value for money).

  • Vision charges £99 to update to version 2.
• Some companies charge for software updates.

  • Synergy includes the latest Reliable Repertory with SHS.
  • Vithoulkas Compass includes updates in the rental cost.

What are the best Homeopathy Apps?

• Synthesis App

  • RadarOpus offers a Synthesis Repertory App for €99 on iOS and Android.
  • The app is great if you’re a fan of Synthesis and want a qualitative repertory solution.
  • Pros: simple and clear. You can email your work to open later in RadarOpus. You can see author references and it has powerful search functions. You can also spend an extra €29 to search remedies in Materia Medica and use more powerful search functions. More info here
  • Cons: not as many many options/features as some of its competitors. More expensive than some competitors

• Hompath

• It has more apps than any other company on the market.
• Pros: For €28 Firefly is a really good option to consider. It has everything you need in a basic Homeopathic App.
• Cons: sometimes less is more… The app can be a bit overwhelming given its immense array of options. Nevertheless for the price it’s definitely worth considering.

• Complete Dynamics

  • Pros: it has everything also present in the software version and you own it forever.
  • Cons: not very easy to navigate / view / customise on a phone.
• Offers an App for €249,99.
• It’s the entire program, so really powerful!
• So, if you are ok with having everything on your phone, this is actually a cheap option compared to renting the program for 10 years (and then having to pay again).
• We imagine the best solution would be to have it on a tablet.

• Vithoulkas Compass

• Isn’t an app, but the whole online software is mobile friendly – the site resizes according to whether you are using a mobile or tablet device.

 

What’s the best Homeopathy software for students?

Before you go any further, our advice is:

• Speak to your school to check which Repertories and Materia Medica you will need to study over the duration of your course.
• Ideally you want a software that can provide all (or most) of those books - also so you don’t have to buy the physical book as you may already have it in electronic format.

As a student you normally want something that does the basic stuff and that isn’t too expensive.

• The cheapest option will be a monthly plan, unless your school or a group of students can get a special buy-now rate that you think fits your needs.
• Buying is always best in the long term but not everyone can meet the additional financial burden of a one-time payment whilst paying for a Homeopathy course at the same time.
• Also think whether you are considering to become a professional Homeopath at the end of your course. If you are, then it’s a good idea to go for a software product that can “grow with you” as your needs increase with your knowledge.
• Contact your favourite brand as they may have special offers for students, even for spreading the cost of a purchase over time (if they have a selling as well as renting option).
• If you get a cheap option that is only useful for basic use, you may find yourself struggling in a few years where you may need to jump to a more professional tool and you may also struggle to learn everything again from scratch (because of a new software interface).

What’s the best Homeopathy software for practitioners?

Normally as a professional Homeopath, you will need:

• A powerful repertorization tool
• A powerful patient management tool
• The possibility to enlarge your library (to expand your knowledge)

If you’re looking for more powerful features and larger libraries over time, then RadarOpus, Synergy/SHS, Vision and Hompath all offer “quantity” (and of course only RadarOpus offer Synthesis Repertory).

Complete Dynamics doesn’t offer as much quantity but it’s still perfectly capable of satisfying the needs of a professional over time (remember, if you really fancy a book they don’t have, you can always buy it separately in electronic or physical form).

Vithoulkas Compass excels if you’re a lover of George Vithoulkas and his approaches.

 

What’s the best Homeopathic software for experienced homeopaths?

Normally, as an experienced Homeopath you’ll be looking for the “cherry on the cake”, i.e. those software solutions that really give you the most powerful tools.

• Depending on your homeopathic approach, you may also want all the latest provings, the most qualitative homeopathic works (classical and modern) and the most advanced patient file tools.
• You may also like to make your own personal additions to the repertory of your choice.
• You may also wish to have clever extra’s like hiding patient info for conference purposes and the likes…

All of the above options are available in RadarOpus, but many of these should also be available in the other company providers. If you are at this level, you probably already own a homeopathic software and know what you want.

Which Homeopathic software has more content?

To our knowledge RadarOpus has the most (when considering all languages), but it doesn’t mean that’s the best program, nor does it mean you will be better off because you have more books. All software providers have enough to get you learning and working professionally. We are very honest in our way of doing business, so let this be clear: having more (and constantly updated) content is a precious resource for any homeopath! But it is not imperative. Every software company will definitely provide you with enough content to get you started and also to work professionally. It then just becomes a question of choice and attitude. Also remember that whilst RadarOpus may have the most content, Complete Repertory (not available in RadarOpus) is the most updated repertory in the market (to date).

• If you like to regularly buy new documents, to expand your knowledge and aim for the largest possible library, then RadarOpus is your no.1 choice, probably followed by Synergy, Hompath, Vision, Complete Dynamics and finally Vithoulkas Compass.
• If your focus is on having a solid base of content from which to work with, then any software provider will be perfectly fine to consider.
• If your focus is to have the most updated repertory, then you should look for a software brand with Complete Repertory.

 

What’s the hype with Synthesis repertory? 

Is it better than Complete repertory?

We provide Synthesis Repertory so we’re not going to tell you it’s better (as it’d obviously be biased!), instead we can tell you what we commonly hear from fans of either side:

• Synthesis gained popularity over the years because of its attention to detail and quality, carefully referencing authors and content. It’s all about attention to detail. Nothing gets added into Synthesis Repertory unless it has been thoroughly checked by a large scientific team.
• Complete Repertory is all about quantity and it is also an extremely valid product. We don’t believe it’s better or worse, it’s simply different. Complete is now far larger than Synthesis and contains more of the latest data compared to Synthesis, but it lacks the same attention to sources, author references etc.

Which is best, Complete repertory or Synthesis repertory? 

Neither. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Synthesis is probably a “safer” choice and includes some of the best additions in the world but it isn’t up to date, Complete is far more “complete” but doesn’t guarantee sources of data in the same way Synthesis does.

Why is Synthesis not as up to date as Complete repertory?

Because the company behind Synthesis slowed down operations between 2009 and 2016. Since 2016 the team has resumed work at full capacity, focusing on the new update of Synthesis Repertory (Adonis) due out in 2021. In the mean time, Complete Repertory has never stopped updating, hence the noticeable difference in size between the 2 repertories at present.
