From Teaching to Healing

Beginning her professional life as a teacher after earning a BA DipEd from Newcastle University in 1971, Patricia taught in New South Wales and Mount Isa. Her natural love of sharing knowledge has continued to shine through her Materia Medica teaching and mentorship of students and practitioners alike.

Passion for Breastfeeding Advocacy

Patricia’s commitment to breastfeeding began early and grew stronger through her personal experience as a mother of three. In 1989, she became an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), and for over 30 years has supported mothers through the challenges of lactation. She advocates for mothering as real work, and champions ideas like milk banks and human milk-based formulas when breastfeeding isn’t possible.

Natural Medicine and the Lac Remedies

Following a health crisis after the birth of her second child, Patricia turned to natural therapies and trained in homoeopathy, eventually earning a Bachelor of Health Science (Homoeopathy). Her deep interest in the Lac remedies (those derived from milk) became a lifelong specialty.

She has authored two seminal books:

  • The Homoeopathic Physician’s Guide to Lactation

  • The Lacs – A Materia Medica & Repertory

Her Milk Matters e-newsletter shares insights on lactation and the Lac remedies with practitioners worldwide.

International Educator and Leader

Patricia has lectured across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA, Canada, and Europe, and taught at institutions such as Southern Cross University and the Sydney College of Homœopathic Medicine. A regular contributor to journals, she is known for her clarity, clinical experience, and heartfelt dedication.

A long-time leader in the AHA (Qld) and former ICH representative, Patricia was awarded a Distinguished Service Award in 2008.

A Mentor in Every Sense

For homeopathy students and professionals alike, Patricia Hatherly offers a rich source of wisdom. Her work is a beautiful blend of clinical depth, nurturing insight, and a deep reverence for the mother–baby bond—making her an inspiring guide in the world of holistic medicine.
