Unobserving

  • Unwilling or unable to perceive something’s significance/ fail to notice what is going on around him. 
  • Synonyms
    • Unaware, aloof, short-sighted, dull, blind, uncomprehending, oblivious, unacquainted, unknowing, in the dark, unconscious, ignorant, innocent, unenlightened
  • Antonyms
    • Observe - to perceive with a special effort of the senses or the mind
      • To look at attentively or carefully
      • Aware, observing, clear-sighted, perceptive, visionary
      • Discern, detect, notice, mind, knowledge, keep tabs on, to act in conformity with (observing the rules), obedient, adhere, toe the line, scrutinize.
      • Observer- spectator, bystander.

Situation / characterization

  • In an unobserving person, the capacity to ‘see’ is impaired

  • There is dullness/ prostration of the mind: confusion and unconsciousness, indicating dysfunction in the mental sphere

  • Many remedies have Mind rubrics; delusions, anxieties, fears that show that the mind is unable to perceive clearly

  • The popular saying goes that ‘ignorance is bliss’ which, although a flippant remark, tells you something about society's attitudinal beliefs

    • We don’t want to deal with our problems, but would rather ‘magic’ them away from the surface with suppressive medicines so they are ‘out of sight, out of mind’
