FOREWORD
Dear Synthesis Users,
After a long working period, we are able to present you the translation of Synthesis which you
have been looking forward to impatiently. A group of volunteer amateur translators who have
set their hearts on homeopathy realized this project and they worked under my guidance. It
was a demanding project due to the intrinsic structure of the source. We thought about
concepts, had lengthy discussions and sometimes changed our minds and rewrote the whole
rubric. Could it have been better? Yes, of course. Every time we read through, we found
something to be changed, something which could have been said better. And, finally, we
concluded that there was no end to making it better and that we had to stop.
As Turkish is an agglutinative language, we had a challenging time to adjust it to the needs of
the structure of Synthesis and the English language. Due to this reason, we used hyphens (-) in
many places. For example, the translation of the rubric “eyelids; with falling of” had to be “göz
kapakları; düşmesi ile –nın” in order to stay within the Synthesis rules. As we had to keep the
first words, commas (,) and semi-colons (;), it was not possible to write the rubrics in more
understandable straight sentences. In some isolated cases, with special permission, we could
omit the semi-colons in order to prevent changes in meanings.
Most of the time, concepts which were defined with multiple words in English had only one
Turkish word for all meanings. This was one of the issues which we had a hard time with. As
we were not allowed to use the same word for a different intended meaning under the same
heading, we had to “create” words/expressions when there was no other Turkish word
available. For example, “speaking” and “talking” has only one Turkish word “konuşmak”;
“fever” and “fire” mean only “ateş” in Turkish; likewise “voice” and “noise” meaning only “ses”.
As there were many main rubrics starting with such words, we had to find a word which was
not used previously and also which would not alter the meaning of the rubric. Especially, the
descriptive words for pain gave us a very challenging time.
As Synthesis has a “language” of its own even in its original language and requires becoming
accustomed to, there will be some difficulties in the beginning while using the Turkish
translation, too.
I sincerely thank Burcu AMASYALI, Nevin BİLİR, Ayşegül BURÇOĞLU, Mutlu DÖLEN, Şenay KAYA, Esen
ÖZÜKÖR IŞIKVER and Dr. Elif ZEYDAN who have put their efforts to this project I have lead.
Ayşegül and Mutlu were the pillars of this project. All corrections and communication with Belgium
were done by them.
May it serve a good purpose for the whole Turkish homeopathy circle.
Kind regards,
